Abstract

The article analyzes the typological features of female beauty in Russian and Chinese folklore by highlighting linguistic markers as indicators of gender in the traditional value code of Russia and China. A selective approach to the selection of empirical material is aimed at identifying clearly distinguished markers of femininity, influenced by the resilience of the traditions of Russians and Chinese to the preservation and reproduction of the ethno-cultural speech and behavioral matrix, regardless of aggressive external influences. The study shows both universal and rare qualities that are reflected in the traditional images of women in the folk song folklore of these two cultures. The authors explore in detail the similarities and differences in the representation of female beauty, as well as their importance for shaping the image and role of women in society. Despite the increased Westernization of modern society, traditional principles largely determine the lives of modern women. This approach makes it possible to model the traditional speech and behavioral gender matrix in the “male and female” coordinate system, fixed in the folklore and musical subcorpuses of China and Russia. The gender coordinate system itself is understood by us as an ethnocultural mechanism of “soft power” in matters of gender regulation. Russian and Chinese cultures model the stereotypical characteristics of female beauty due to the need to parameterize the gender value ethno-cultural code of Chinese and Russians, which is considered a key factor in the activation of intercultural communication between Russia and China. The results of the study can be useful for understanding cross-cultural characteristics and the influence of folklore on ideas about female beauty in various societies.
