Abstract

n modern practice of interreligious relations, the emphasis is put onstrengthening harmony (peacemaking dialogue), cooperation between believers toachieve social well-being (partnership dialogue) or the desire to know better the inter-locutor (cognitive dialogue). The topic of theological contradictions between religions,as something that divides participants and can lead to antagonism and hostility, oftenremains on the periphery of attention both in the activities of religious associations andin the field of academic research on interreligious dialogue. The article attempts to fillthis gap and presents an original approach to the typology of religious disputes amongfollowers of the Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam). Each religioussystem was represented by the figures of founders and reformers of religions: Moses,Jesus Christ, Yohanan ben Zakkai, Muhammad, and Luther. The authors set off tentypes of religious disputes: (1) pre-Rabbinic Judaism – polytheism, (2) Christianity –Rabbinic Judaism, (3) Christianity – polytheism, (4) Rabbinic Judaism – polytheism,(5) Islam – polytheism, 6) Islam – Rabbinic Judaism, (7) Islam – Catholicism, (8) Islam –Orthodoxy, (9) Protestantism – Islam, (10) Protestantism – Rabbinic Judaism. The logicof the development of religious disputes, the main themes and the most significant textson each of the listed types of controversy are analyzed. The problem of interreligiousdisputes has not lost its relevance, therefore the approach presented in the article maybe of interest not only to researchers (primarily religious scholars and theologians), butalso to specialists working in the field of interreligious dialogue.
