Inquisitor and The Others: Waldansian Heretics in the late Whritings of Heinrich Institoris

Abstract

The article deals with two cases of heretics – the waldensian bishop Friedrich Reiser and Bohemian brethren – from practice of Heinrich Institoris. Descriptions of both cases were performed by Inquisitor from Slettstadt in his late works. Despite of differences in doctrines Institoris called them both as waldensians, using the image of the Other. The paper reveals a narrative strategy of inquisition: heresy without any specification is the adversary of the Roman pope and Catholic church.
