The article deals with the ideological concept of Russian and Soviet patriotic discourse of the 19th-20th ‒ the concept BOGATYR’. The research aims to describe the properties and the dynamics of the ideological concept BOGATYR’ transferred from Slavic epic narrations into Russian and Soviet patriotic discourses. As the relevance of ideological concept changes with time and social mutations, we analyze BOGATYR’ taking into account discourse fragments belonging to four «time slices»: 1) the Patriotic War of 1812, marking the formation of Russian patriotic discourse; 2) the Crimean War of 1853-1856, followed by abolition of serfdom in Russia; 3) World War I; 4) the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. Using corpus-based methods of analysis, the authors observe trends in the development of the keyword «bogatyr’» and the frequency of collocations containing it in Russian communicative practice. The paper concludes that the productivity and the persuasive force of the ideological concept BOGATYR’ tend to grow in the most difficult periods of the country’s history, regardless of the existing political regime.
