The article looks into the language policies of the states with Hunga- rian language minorities in Carpathian Basin. The main source of empirical data is the EU and the countries’ legislation on minority rights and language policy frameworks, EU surveys on demography and languages. The subject of the article is the legal status of the Hungarian language and the language policies of the countries with the Hungarian minorities.
