Through the lens of the situation of metamodernity (metamodernism) as a configuration of postpostmodernity (postpostmodernism), the article examines the social practices of tourism and travel, which are reflected in linguistic concepts as cognitive structures that make it possible to comprehend the essences, images and values of tourism as a form of escapism. Among others, the concepts of “dark tourism”, “slow tourism”, “soft tourism”, “positive tourism”, “transformative tourism” as well as “frontstage and backstage identity”, “existential authenticity”, “theme park” and many more are dwelt upon.
