The article considers the views of prominent philosophers, including A.A. Bello, L. Bruni, M. Pagani, P.R. Sindoni, on the history, shaping, issues, ways of development and prospects of modern and contemporary European identity in connection with its spirituality. The paper lays special emphasis on its Christian and communitarian constituents. It also reveals certain aspects of interrelations between philosophy (on the basis of works by H.W.F. Hegel, E. Husserl, E. Stein) and religion in general and Christianity in particular.
