Abstract

The article addresses the cognitive-discursive category of emplacement from the viewpoint of the ecolinguistic approach. The paper considers the case of narratives about food and eating habits and examines the issue of reflecting the experience of a change of place in the corporeal, prosodic and other behavior of the informant within the framework of the narrative about the experience. The main focus is on the different ways of manifestation of the cognitive phenomena “emplacement”, “displacement” and “replacement”. The material for the research covers a video interview with a francophone with a complex migration background, which was marked up with the Elan software. The multimodal analysis revealed that the degree to which the individual’s cognitive experience is connected with the place they live in is manifested in the corporeal and verbal behavior that accompanies the story of the experience of moving from one place to another.
