Abstract

The paper deals with the philosophic issues of symbol, sign and their role in literature for youth and children. Using the conceptions of prominent thinkers, such as C.G. Yung, M. Heidegger and U. Eco, for example the reader / text conception, the author tries to show the importantance of symbols for young readers and for their Paideia as the main aim of education, its role in boosting creativity, humanity, kindness and other important qualities. For this purpose the author analyzes several books by authors from different countries of the world. Among them are C.M. Gaite, S. Gandolfi, A. Fine, U. Evo, M. Parr with their easy but impressive and memorable symbols – the Statue of Liberty, Little Riding Hood, the Sun, the Heart and the Tortoise.
