The article discusses the reasons for changing attitudes towards the organization of architectural space in the first half of the twentieth century. It is noted that the formation of projective thinking dates back to the Renaissance, when the view of a person, his correlation with the environment changes, which leads to the emergence of new urban planning theories based on qualitatively different principles of shaping. At the beginning of the 20th century, the dominant idea was the transformation of the surrounding world, which in architecture was associated with a rethinking of space and the principles of shaping. One of the main theorists in this direction were V. Gropius and C. Le Corbusier.
