The paper presents an analysis of collocations with the key verb “to love” in a spe-cially highlighted concordance in the works of A.P. Chekhov. The concordance is formed taking into account the meaning of the verb, as referring to the feeling of love between a man and a woman. It is revealed that in a vast majority of cases the author uses this key lexeme in a situation of direct communication, reproducing a verbal declaration of love. It has been established that the emotions frequently asso-ciated with the feeling of love are emotions of passion, madness, rage, despair, act-ing as expressive intensifiers. A stable relationship between lexical collocations and context, which is of a colligative nature, has been found.
