The article investigates the image of Charles de Gaulle as a synthesis of biography, history and culture. The portrait of Ch. de Gaulle in R. Gary’s novel is considered as a reconstruction of the image of a historical personality at the crossroads between the three types of literature – fiction, publicist and documentary-historical. The author analyzes the correlation between de Gaulle’s biography and the biography / history of France, which is clearly expressed in the novel, and comprehended by R. Gary in the context of culture of the memory.
