The city in general and St. Petersburg in particular can exemplify the entire semiosphere described by Yu.M. Lotman. Both of them generate many verbal and non-verbal texts, which are connected with their senses by the various semiotic systems. «The St. Petersburg text of Russian literature» was shaped within the context of the heterogeneous city space that is semiotized by non-verbal codes tying meanings with visible forms, places, materials, sizes, etc.
