The review identifies modern approaches to the analysis of the phenomenon of metamodernism and points out the main markers and boundaries of metamodernism and its functions in contemporary art. Metamodernism is a new chronotypological stage, a new socio-cultural concept that attempts to describe the changes that occur at the turn of the century in an interdisciplinary discourse. N. Khrushcheva's book «Metamodernism inside and around music» describes a new metamodern sensibility and reveals the peculiarities of the concept on the example of the musical art of the late 20’s – early 21 century. The author of the review concludes that N. Khrushcheva reveals not only aspects of a theoretical nature (markers of metamodernism and their conceptual features at the present stage), but also designates a circle of composers whose work most relevantly reflects metamodern logic («Quiet Songs» by V. Silvestre, «Song of a collective farmer about Moscow» L. Desyatnikov and «Canto ostinato» by S. ten Holt).
