The paper explores main directions of linguistic research conducted at the INION RAN. The linguistic globalization and multicultural issues are being discussed in connection with world communicative space of the 21 st century. The paper also deals with the situation of bilingualism in some parts of the «post-Soviet space». The necessity of studying the problems of majority and minority languages, and the global language is pointed out. The paper focuses on the fact that the attitude of the society towards the translator is changing and the status of the translator is constantly increasing along with the translator’s role in society. The meaning compression of primary scientific texts to secondary scientific texts is also discussed. The paper reviews research field of Psycholinguistics, describes possible places to search for results of scientific projects, national and international scientific conferences.
