The article deals with three factors that influence the choice and functioning of a language as a means of communication in the globalizing world, i.e. the notions of language policy, language management and language ideologies. The study shows their difference as far as their mechanisms are concerned. But these phenomena practically act in cooperation with each other, and in the article their impact is illustrated on the examples of native vs. English language use in three discourses – Internet communication, higher education and everyday communication.
