The article focuses on the deconstruction of some stereotypes from so called Norseman and Slavic theories on the Russian state origins as a polyethnocultural formation. It briefly describes the elements of the new approach which should be considered a third theory. The paper offers new solutions to the issue of the origins of the terms “Varangians”, “Russ”, “Slovenes” and names of the first Russian princes Rurik, Sineus and Truvor.
