The paper focuses on the metaphors of time in the tetralogy «November 1918. A German Revolution» by Alfred Döblin (1878–1957), one of the key figures in the European Modernism. Doblin's ideas concerning the rules of constructing an epic work are supported by his late religious and mystical ideas. The tetralogy reflects his vision of non-linear and multilayered time of an individual and history.
