Abstract

The novel «The Golden Pattern» is an artistic reflection on the causes of the historical calamity which happened in Russia in the early 20th century. In determining the guilt of the Russian intelligentsia B. Zaytsev turns to historical, religious and cultural issues putting them into the artistic and philosophical Man-Time-Space system. At the heart of the system is Man as Creator. The key role in the novel is played by ekphrasis. Scenic canvas paintings, sculptures and architectural monuments are not merely mentioned, but also fit into the artistic and philosophical text structure and become an essential part of mythical and symbolical imaginary, allusive supplement to the system of character nomination and meaningful semantic unit.
