Abstract

The article describes the results of the survey in which the respondents analyzed the semantics of the words «справедливый» (fair) and «справедливость» (justice). The purpose of the survey was to identify the subjective images of justice among Russian native speakers. The survey involved 142 people (18-20 years old), for whom Russian is the mother tongue and the language of everyday communication. The survey showed that respondents assigned four values to the semantics of the words «fair» and «justice»: a) distribution of good and evil at the highest level, not amenable to regulation; b) state compensation or punishment for good and evil regulated by the law; c) social conflict regulation in interpersonal communication, in accordance with the idea of the norm; d) truthfulness, accuracy, honesty. The survey showed that among the respondents there are two models of justice, described by the philosophers: the distribution model and the recognition model, however, the first one dominates. The distribution model is expressed in the use of the words «заслуги» (merit) and «заслужить» (to deserve). If respondents appealed to the recognition model, they wrote about human rights. But-test showed that the concept of justice includes the component «жестокость» (cruelty), but the concept of injustice does not include to the same degree the component «милосердие» (mercy). From the respondents’ perspective, «справедливость» (justice) includes the component «необходимость смирения» (the need for humility).
