The article focuses on the origin of the theological term «eschatology» arisen in the first third of XIX century in the environment of German liberal Protestantism. It is shown that proliferation of meaning of the term goes within schools of the Biblical hermeneutics of the beginning of XX century. It is established that depending on interpretation of three Greek words επιφάνια, παρουσία, ἀποκάλυψις, which could mean both the First, and the Second Coming of the Christ, three paradigmatic scenarios were formulated: carried out, postponed eschatology and eschatology which began to be implemented.
