Abstract

The paper focuses on the sense of simplicity as the semiotic modelling code of culture. It presents the notions of sense of simplicity as experienced in minimalism (in architecture) considered as an adequate model of meaning in the cultural landscapes of Japan and the Mediterranean. A sense of simplicity becomes the producer of the cognitive code of culture and the model of significance for the architectural world in which we live. Maybe the reason why minimalism has become the sign of our time is its effort to make the world a better place.
